It's already the time of year where college acceptances are coming, or have already came. Everyone has had various degrees of success with regards to the schools they have been accepted to. However, it does not seem like we are anywhere near the end of the school year. For some reason, even though there is only a few weeks of school remaining, the workload seems to be increasing rather than slowing down. Personally, I would have been able to indulge myself over weekends by doing whatever I wished; however, these past few weeks seem to have overwhelmed me with a deluge of calculus, economics, and literature. Despite the perceived increase in work to be done, though, it also seems that other people are having more free time, which is a paradox I cannot begin to comprehend. There's only a few weeks left, so I figure that I might as well go all out until the end. Congratulations to all who got accepted to the colleges of their choice and good luck to those who haven't heard back yet.

Byron,
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you that the workload is increasing now that it is nearing the end of the year. With all of the college acceptance letters being sent out there will be more and more people not wanting to do their homework or even go to school. As hard as it is though, I think we should try our best to finish strong where we then can head into college feeling confident and ready for what ever comes our way. I really enjoyed reading your post keep up the good work and try your best to finish to the end.

I have to agree that it feels that the workload is increasing. These last two months feel like they are going by so slow and before we know it the school year is going to be over along with high school. It is hard to keep pushing myself to give all I have into my homework and classwork because I am literally ready to be done with high school, Nonetheless thank you for the congratulations same to you! I guess all the hard work for the past four years is truly paying off.

It should come as no surprise that I agree also. For me, it's primarily my AP classes that are busy-ing my schedule. It's all about preparing for AP tests (all the one's I'm taking are at the beginning of the first week, unfortunately). However, on the plus side, it seems like after all of my AP tests are done, I will get the break that I have desired for so long.

I agree, the workload seems overwheming lately. These last few months seemas if they are going by at turtle speed, and it's drivinng me crazy. I am ready to be out of school, but at the same time i'm not. It's time to give it my all in these last few months.

I agree! It seems like I have all these projects due. I think the teachers are just trying to push everything in. But just like we all made it through last semester and applying for colleges, we can push through the next 2 months.
ReplyDeletePavneet K.
True, it seems that teachers have fallen behind and are therefore piling us with double the workload to make-up for lost time, and if not, are filled with what seems to be never-ending preparations for AP tests. The motivation to do my homework and study has never been so low but like you said, why not stick through it if we only have a month left.

Totally agree with you, Once you know where you wanna go to college its really hard to stay focused in school. But I believe thats its only few more weeks left and we should try to live the most of them and have fun. :)
ReplyDeleteThe next adventure is coming very quickly. I think we're all excited and that we should make the best of this. I appreciate and agree with your view point on it. Hang in there, and enjoy it. You, unlike some of us, aren't taking the AP French Exam. That ought to be a comfort :)

You are not the only one who has seen an increase in the work load! It's as if we are getting more work these last few weeks then we were given first semester. Now that the stress of acceptances is over it is very hard to find motivation to do this work but we are all pushing ourselves to complete our tasks!

Now that acceptances have come, the process of actually signing with a school is almost as nerve wracking as it was waiting for a reply. I know where I would like to go- and I have been accepted, yet when it comes time for me to press that magic button on their website confirming my attendance, I seem to freeze. This is a decision that I will be living with for the next few years and I intend to maximize it, but how do we know we are making the right choice? Though school does not seem to end, I am not too sure I can commit enough to the future for that to start either.

I agree.. should our last months of highschool be filled with cramming for that last test, or scrambling to finish that last project that will ultimately determine our final grade? Or should we be essentially cherishing these last few months we have together, making memories that we can look back upon..just a thought. Maybe we should be focusing on the celebration of our journey into adulthood more so than the mounds of school projects that continue to pile up.

I think what is hardest for me to comprehend is that we still have AP tests. I don't know how I keep forgetting but I do. I just am so caught up in the idea of going to college. I realize high school isn't over, but with acceptances coming out and decisions to be made its all I can think about! I swear college is taking up every inch of my mind at the moment. I really need to kick it into gear though because you are totally right. The work load isn't slowing down just yet and I might as well finish strong, right?

I think this is definitely true, all my classes seem to be packing on the work as well. I think that we should still be working, but also allowing more time to reflect on high school and have some fun, while still learning. All this work will probably subside in a few weeks I hope so we can reflect on these four years! :)

That's pretty strange, cuz i've been doing less and less work this whole year, so idk what you guys r talking about.

I honestly have been doing more work towards the end of the year than I did at the beginning. I think because Teachers were sympathetic about our college applications and essays, they lowered the work amount so we could effectively work on those applications. Since no applications exist anymore, the work load went back to normal!

I, too, see the paradox of increasingly more work for some and increasingly free time for others. Although my first thought was that the difference lies in whether or not the student is taking AP or college prep classes, I now think that much of it is dependent on the student's motivation. If an AP student lacks the motivation to finish homework or to study, then it would appear that he has a lot of free time.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I didn't feel the surge of increasingly more work until today. As tough as all this last-minute senior work may seem, it's satisfying knowing that in a few more weeks, all this stress will be over.
I also agree with you Byron. Things do seem to get harder and more stressful even after we have been accepted to our colleges. Also, even though school is strikingly close to the end, with the work load, it feels like things are going backwards. However, that might just be our laziness :o

Thank you Bryon! I too have noticed that this year seems to be different from the years before; usually, the workload would decrease as teachers sympathized with our need to study for AP tests. As juniors, we were seen as stressed-out students in need of a break. Now, as seniors, we're seen as lazy bums who are more than ready to leave, and thus, teachers have no sympathy for us. They subsequently pile on the work.
ReplyDeleteDavid Mao
Thank you, and best of luck with regard to any of your college aspirations! I am in the same boat with you with regard to the workload seeming to get larger and larger with each passing day. It is indeed a paradox, because even people with the same classes as you seem to have less homework. It baffles me but at any rate, as your title so simply states, we are nearing the end, and the beginning of a new chapter in our lives. We should do what we can to enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteScott C.
I totally agree with you also Byron. Even as the end of the school year is nearing, all of the workload in all my classes has been steadily rising. I know that a part of that has to do with AP testing and teachers prepping students for the test, but I personally think that, ironically, at this time, the end of the year, my workload has never been more. I think a reason has to do with teachers preparing us lazy seniors for the life of college and the exorbitant workload we're to expect. With this in light, I think it's important as seniors to step back and enjoy what we've done in our 4 years, but also to look forward and see what we can do to improve our work ethic and habits to be equipped for college.
