The Dread of Blog Posts

Yesterday Mrs. Elliott warned us about our blog records being due in a week, with at least 2 blog posts attached. I cringed at the thought, simply because I knew my own blog record was untouched since February 28. I was not very good at this blogging thing. I was unable to keep up with posts until she announces the due date  of our records, in which I still Facebooked instead of commented. Yet whenever I come to blog I always find myself enjoying the blog posts of other teams, ceaselessly venting on the comment box, unaware that I had fulfilled my 8 comment requirment. Nonetheless these feelings come in waves. So I attempted my blog comeback today; I was worried my team's blog was deleted due to inactivity (but thanks to Alex Chang for keeping up with it). I had not posted since January 31, and I completely forgot my team's email to login to the page! Simply said: I suck at blogging.
So I decided to comment first instead, and I was immediately affected by Mariah Neilson's blog about her new diet. Not about the giving up sweets parts of course, but I was influenced by her determination and ability to create her own blog and update it daily. Much like Mrs. Elliott, she blogs each day about her new diet, recipes, and cravings as they occur. I admire thei persistence simply because I cannot do it. I mean I can barely keep up an ASSIGNED blog, how am I supposed to do one for fun?
Thus I set my goal: this summer I will start my own blog. An old friend once told me her goal in life was to have one job starting with each letter of the alphabet, and I always wanted to write about it. Perhaps this summer I could try to accomplish things starting with each letter of the alphabet. I.E A) Angels Baseball game. B) Broadway musical... and so on. I plan for this blog to not only test my endurance on writing, but to truly allow myself to open up to strangers about my daily events. I thank Mrs. Elliott for incessantly requiring comments and blog posts because only now do I understand the use of it. Whether you follow Mariah's vegetarian lifestyle, or my alphabetical adventures, know that it was prepared through the dread of posts like these :)

  1. hey yo Jacy,

I really really like the alphabet idea. There is however one problem that popped into my mind, how are you going to find a word for the letter z? Also let me know what where your blog is so that I can keep up with it during the summer, even though since I am your only friend I will probably hear all about what you are doing anyway (just kidding)!!!

  2. That's really great that you are going to continue blogging. I like that idea. But I totally forgot about blogging as well and when Mrs.Elliott told us I was thinking to myself if I even had enough to meet the standards. I look forward to reading your blog in the summer. :)

  5. Ohhh thats a good one. Ive always wanted to go zip lining and I almost did in colorado when I was young but unfortunately it didnt come through. The closest thing I have done is acrobatic gliding for my 18th birthday which was a lot of fun.

  6. x could be for xylophone. In other words play the xylophone. Thats all I could really come up with.

  7. cool story brent! but how is xylophone an adventure? I certainly would not want to read a blog about a girl playing the xylophone!

  8. Touche Jacy Touche. But if the xylophone were in a lions cage then you couldnt very well say it's not an adventure now could you? If you took any boring event and put a lion in it, it suddenly becomes adventurous. For example, walking a dog, walking a a lion; cutting your nails, cutting a lion's nails; brushing your teeth, brushing a hungry lion's teeth.

  9. I totally understand what you mean that how we feel forced to comment and blog, but I've realized that once I make myself read and comment I actually begin enjoying myself. I also want to set a goal to start a new blog on short stories I write, and I would also love to read your blog posts.

  10. I was thinking that it might be nice to start a blog this summer too. It's one way to document your life. I've enjoyed blogging, but it might be fun to blog about my adventures in college as I prepare for a career.

  11. Oh Jacy. It's blogs like this that really get me interested. I love how you were inspired by the determination of others and are going to continue blogging to prove yourself. I love the alphabet idea too.. I will definitely be a follower! As for me, I've tried my hardest to keep up, and as you and Semarn said, as soon as I begin to look, I begin to enjoy it. Keep us posted on your upcoming blog!

And did you come up with your team name? This sounds really familiar from elementary school.. I almost feel like we used it in Borja's class. :P

  12. This blog is a display of the truth...the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. I admire you taking a large leap towards something new (your blog for the summer) and possibly difficult decision. I have to agree that being coerced to write blog and comment on others is a drag, but at least we get a chance to look inside of the authors' minds and can learn from their language and structures. Overall, this blog is an eye-opener for me, maybe I should try something new, out of my norm and stick with it. Jacy, you've made an impact!

  15. shhhhhh tayloy, no one is supposed to know about that! haha but thanks for all the support. I mean it truly is a hassle to come to all these blogs just to write a shallow response after only half way skimming over the paragraph. But I certaintly can't deny that every so often I find myself replying in an unusually lenthgy paragaph, arguing or strongly disagreeing with the poster. Undoubtly, I inevitably end up losing myself in the blogs. (Kinda like this response!)

  16. I was also thinking about starting a blog when I start college, I think it would be a really great way to documents all of the exciting new experiences and after a semester looking back on it will help to not forget any of the great things that happened. It would be like a diary but cooler.
I also agree that although this assignment has been tedious, it probably has also inspired many to blog for fun and how it can be rewarding.

  17. Jacy, I think that your idea of starting a new blog is inspiring. I definitely would like to follow a blog that contains activities from A to Z. It baffles me that you and I get to go to the same school when we're so different in what drives us, but I suppose that's the beauty of universities. I'll be looking forward to seeing what you come up with when you get to X :)

  18. Jacy, I think you speak for all of us with this post. It seems like blogging is certainly a pain but its posts like these that make commenting and the whole blogging experience fun. Blogs that dont pertain to a persons reaction to a book or a composition journal response make venting on comments all the more exciting!
